Nurse Writing on Clipboard

By nominating them, you are honouring your caregiver’s selflessness in taking on the responsibilities of your care on top of their own and other family members. You are helping them see their worth and impact on you and society, as role models to be recognized on a societal level.

A family caregiver is an extraordinary person who provides any type of physical and/or emotional care for an ill or disabled loved one at home. Loved ones in need of care include those who have a physical or mental illness, disability, special needs or chronic medical conditions. The primary caregiver is a spouse, partner, parent, adult child or foreign domestic worker.

Caregivers often do one or more of the following:

  • Help with daily activities such as dressing, bathing, toileting, preparing meals, doing chores or laundry, shopping for groceries or paying bills.

  • Provide support and encouragement for the care recipients as well as themselves while remaining empathetic to the situation.

  • Making decisions with the care recipient’s medical team by taking notes, asking questions and assisting loved ones during doctors’ visits. They may also need to assist with other medical processes such as physical therapy, injections, providing transportation to appointments, and dealing with logistics, administrative and financial issues.

  • They advocate when their loved one finds it hard to be forthcoming with their physical or emotional needs and tend to downplay their pain when speaking with doctors. They help encourage honest communication between medical professionals and care recipients by upholding care recipient's preferences for treatment options.

The top 3 stories featured on our social media will receive $50 grocery vouchers each. Deadline to submit is 25 March 2021.

*Awardees must have a local residential address (Singapore).
